Entrepreneur Visa

Entrepreneur visas are for entrepreneurs that are seeking to:

  1. Commercialise an innovative product or service in Australia;
  2. Develop an innovative enterprise or business in Australia; or
  3. Expand an innovative enterprise or business into Australia.

To obtain an entrepreneur visa you will need to complete the following steps:

  1. Submit an Expression of Interest (‘EOI’) via SkillSelect
  2. Submit a nomination application to the Australian State or Territory that you want to live and operate your business in.
  3. Submit your visa application.

There are two visas that allow entrepreneurs to undertake entrepreneurial activities in Australia. These are the subclass 188 entrepreneur stream visa (188e) and the subclass 132 venture capital stream visa (132b).

Entrepreneur Stream (188e Visa)

This is a temporary entrepreneur visa that can last for up to 4 years and 3 months. After holding your 188e visa for 4 years, you can apply for permanent residency.

If you are interested in applying for a 188e visa, you will need to meet the following minimum eligibility criteria.

  1. You have an innovative idea for the commercialisation of a product or service, or the development of an enterprise or business in Australia.
  2. You have competent English language abilities.
  3. You have a funding agreement/s to receive at least $200,000 AUD for your entrepreneurial activity from an eligible funding provider.

Venture Capital Stream (132b Visa)

The 132b visa provides immediate permanent residency for successful applicants.

To be eligible for a 132b visa you will need to demonstrate that you satisfy the following minimum criteria.

  1. You have a funding agreement to receive at least $1M AUD to fund the early-phase start-up of a business, commercialisation of a product, development of a business or the expansion of a business in Australia.
  2. The funds for your entrepreneurial activity are being provided by a member of the Australian Investment Council who is registered as a venture capitalist.
