Student Visa

A student visa allows students, from high school right through to tertiary, to undertake studies in Australia. Student visas are temporary visas and generally expire 3 months after your intended completion date of your studies. For example, if you are enrolled in a bachelors degree and the length of this degree is 3 years, then your student visa will last for up to 3 years and 3 months.

Should you wish to undertake further studies after your current student visa is set to expire, it is possible to apply for another student visa. However, if the primary reason behind applying for another student visa is so you can continue to maintain residency in Australia and not further your career prospects, then you might find it difficult to obtain another student visa.

The student visa program has been streamlined in recent years so that there is only one type of student visa, the subclass 500.

What is the process for applying for a student visa?
